Congressman Hakeem Jeffries Officially Endorses Nikki Lucas for Open NY State Assembly Seat in East Brooklyn

Congressman Hakeem Jeffries announced his endorsement of Nikki Lucas for New York State Assembly, in Brooklyn’s 60th Assembly District, covering East New York, Starrett City, Brownsville and Canarsie.

Congressman Jeffries stated, “Nikki is a proven community leader with a track record of improving the quality of life for the residents of East New York and Brownsville. She has successfully fought to preserve affordable housing, expand access to high quality health care, educate our children and provide services for our seniors.

The Congressman added, “Nikki Lucas has always had our community’s back. That is why I am proud to strongly endorse her candidacy to be the next Assemblymember for East New York and Brownsville. I look forward to doing everything I can to make sure that Nikki Lucas is elected.”

Community members describe Ms. Lucas as an innovative leader rooted in service and a seeker of justice for the residents of East New York and Brownsville for over 30 years.

Nikki Lucas stated, “I will be ready on Day 1 as the next Assemblymember from East New York. I thank Congressman Jeffries for his support and I look forward to continuing my partnership with him at the state level around our shared vision for a better Brooklyn. A vision which includes quality schools, truly affordable housing, including economic relief for homeowners, homeownership opportunities, the creation of good paying jobs, support for small businesses, and access to affordable and high-quality health care.”

Nikki Lucas is a 40-year resident of Starrett City and a staunch community advocate for residents of East New York, the surrounding neighborhoods of East New York, Starrett City, Brownsville, Canarsie, and many other neighborhoods across New York City.

Lucas is a former Female Democratic State Committee Member in the 60th New York State Assembly District, the founder of the People First Democratic Club, and the People First Education Fund.

The Special Election for the 60th Assembly District will be held Tuesday Feb. 15, with Early Voting running from Feb. 5 – Feb. 13.
