New York, NY – September 12, 2024 – Pete’s Tavern, New York City’s oldest continuously operating bar and restaurant and a cherished literary landmark, is proud to announce that it will host the distinguished O. Henry Prizes on September 17th, 2024. This year’s winning stories were chosen by highly acclaimed American novelist Amor Towles.
The O. Henry Awards annually honor twenty outstanding short stories selected from thousands published in magazines over the past year. Named in tribute to the iconic short story writer O. Henry, a frequent patron of Pete’s Tavern who penned the classic “Gift of the Magi” in Booth 3—now famously known as The O. Henry Booth—the awards celebrate literary excellence and the enduring legacy of short fiction.
The 2024 Awards event will take place in Pete’s exclusive Speakeasy Room and will bring together some of today’s most talented literary voices, including this year’s Chief Judge and Editor, Amor Towles, renowned for his bestselling novels “A Gentleman in Moscow,” “Rules of Civility,” and “The Lincoln Highway.”
Pete’s Tavern is located at 129 E 18th St, New York, NY 10003.
