Canarsie Pier for Canarsie News Launch
JIG Media has launched Canarsie News, a new digital media platform dedicated to serving Canarsie and surrounding Southeast Brooklyn communities. As part of the NYC News Network, the platform will provide community resource information, event coverage, business features, neighborhood guides, and civic information designed to help residents stay informed, connected, and engaged with their communities.
BROOKLYN, NY — Residents of Canarsie and surrounding Southeast Brooklyn neighborhoods now have a new source for local information, community resources, events, and neighborhood stories. JIG Media has officially launched Canarsie News, a hyperlocal digital media platform that is part of the NYC News Network.
The new platform was created to serve residents of Canarsie, Flatlands, Mill Basin, Bergen Beach, Georgetown, Marine Park, Gerritsen Beach, and neighboring communities. Coverage will focus on local events, community initiatives, business features, civic affairs, neighborhood development, affordability issues, and stories about the people who make these communities unique.
Canarsie News is designed to be more than a news website. The platform will also function as a community resource hub, connecting residents with information about affordable housing programs, homeowner assistance, senior services, youth programs, parks, schools, nonprofit organizations, and other local resources.
"We created Canarsie News because these neighborhoods deserve a platform that reflects who they are," said Vernon Jones, CEO of JIG Media. "There are already many outlets that focus primarily on crime and negativity. Our goal is to highlight the people, businesses, organizations, and community leaders who are helping these neighborhoods thrive."
Jones added, "Our team has seen firsthand how valuable hyperlocal information can be through EastNewYork.com and our other community platforms," Jones said. "Canarsie News allows us to expand that model into another important part of Brooklyn. While each neighborhood has its own identity, residents across Southeast Brooklyn are looking for trusted local information, community resources, events, and stories that reflect their everyday lives."
Unlike many local news outlets, Canarsie News will not focus on crime reporting. Instead, the platform will emphasize community achievements, local businesses, neighborhood events, public resources, and stories that showcase the strengths of Southeast Brooklyn.
The website will feature community resource guides, neighborhood profiles, restaurant features, local business spotlights, event announcements, elected official updates, and community-interest stories. Residents will also find information designed to help them better understand and navigate the services available in their neighborhoods.
Canarsie News will work closely with NYC Newswire, JIG Media's New York-focused press release distribution platform. Through this relationship, local businesses, schools, nonprofit organizations, community groups, and elected officials will have opportunities to share important announcements with local audiences.
"Hyperlocal media works best when it understands and respects the communities it serves," said Wayne Jordan, Senior Vice President of JIG Media. "Our goal is to create a platform that keeps residents informed, supports local businesses, promotes community engagement, and helps people connect with valuable resources."
Jordan added that the platform's resource library and neighborhood coverage will continue to expand throughout the year. Future content will include additional community guides, local leader profiles, business features, event coverage, and resource information focused on improving quality of life for residents.
Initial content on the platform includes neighborhood guides, local business features, community resource pages, and event announcements. New content will be added regularly as the platform continues to grow.
Canarsie News joins the NYC News Network's growing portfolio of community-focused digital media platforms dedicated to serving New York City neighborhoods through local storytelling, useful information, and resource-driven content. You can visit the platform at CanarsieNews.com.
