The 30-second video uses humor before Shields shares her personal experience of losing her father, who had prostate cancer. The campaign coincides with Mount Sinai's launch of EXPAND-PC, a five-year, $4.2 million federally funded research project examining ways to improve screening access in underserved communities. Researchers plan to conduct a feasibility trial involving 240 men across eight New York City Housing Authority communities, supported by mobile screening services and education. Mount Sinai's broader screening initiative aims to encourage informed conversations with health care providers and improve access to follow-up care.

Mamdani Names 4 to NYC Police Oversight Board

Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced four appointments to New York City's Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB), the independent agency responsible for reviewing complaints of police misconduct. The appointees are Reginald Greene, a mediator and former Manhattan prosecutor; Lisa Hoyes, an NYU Law administrator and former public defender; Lisa Landau, a Fordham Law executive with experience in government and public-interest law; and Wesner Pierre, a nonprofit leader with a background in youth development and violence prevention. The board is chaired by Jennifer Jones Austin, while June Northern will continue serving as a member. The appointments bring professional experience in legal advocacy, public administration and community services to the city's civilian police oversight agency.

NYU Langone Names Dr. David Cohen Dermatology Chair

NYU Langone Health has appointed David E. Cohen, MD, MPH, chair of the Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, effective October 1, 2026. Dr. Cohen, who joined NYU Langone in 1994, succeeds Seth J. Orlow, MD, PhD, following his 20-year tenure as department chair. A specialist in inflammatory skin conditions including eczema, psoriasis and rosacea, Cohen has held several clinical and academic leadership positions within the institution. His priorities include expanding patient access, advancing dermatology research and strengthening specialized services in skin cancer, skin allergy testing and dermatopathology. Dr. Orlow will remain on the medical school's faculty and continue contributing to research, education and patient care.

Cooley has added Nicholas Caselli as a partner in its securities litigation and enforcement practice and global litigation department in New York. Caselli represents clients in securities class actions, shareholder derivative cases and M&A-related disputes, including matters involving technology and life sciences companies. The firm said his recruitment is part of its effort to expand its securities litigation capabilities in New York, building on a practice historically prominent on the West Coast. Caselli joins Cooley from Freshfields, where he practiced in New York. His arrival follows several other additions to Cooley's New York litigation team as the firm's global litigation department continues to expand.

Crowell & Moring Names NY’s Glen McGorty Next Chair

Crowell & Moring has elected New York managing partner Glen McGorty as the next chair of the firm's Management Board, with his three-year term beginning March 1, 2027. McGorty will become the first chair in the firm's history to be based outside Washington, D.C. He currently serves on Crowell's Management Board and Executive Committee and chairs its Litigation and Trial Department. McGorty joined the firm in 2012 following nearly 15 years as a federal prosecutor and has led the expansion of Crowell's New York office. According to the firm, attorney headcount in the New York office has increased by nearly 50% during the past six years.

CUNY Professor Gets $560K for Prime Number Research

CUNY mathematics professor Louis-Pierre Arguin has been awarded $560,000 over four years as a principal investigator in an international research collaboration exploring some of the most challenging questions in number theory. Arguin, who is affiliated with the CUNY Graduate Center and Baruch College, will participate in the Simons Collaboration on Universal Statistics in Number Theory. The project brings together researchers using probability and statistical physics to investigate patterns involving prime numbers, the Riemann zeta function and other mathematical problems. The funding will also support a postdoctoral researcher who will interact with doctoral students in the Graduate Center's Mathematics Ph.D. program, connecting CUNY students with a broader international network of mathematics researchers.

NYU Langone Names New Director of Upper GI Oncology

NYU Langone Health has appointed Dr. Rutika Mehta as director of upper gastrointestinal medical oncology at Perlmutter Cancer Center, expanding the health system's clinical care and research involving cancers of the stomach, esophagus and gastroesophageal junction. Mehta specializes in personalized cancer treatment using molecular profiling, circulating tumor DNA testing and biomarker-driven therapies to help guide treatment decisions. In her new role, she will also work to expand clinical trials for patients with upper GI cancers, including studies of targeted treatments and other emerging therapies. Mehta joins NYU Langone from Weill Cornell Medicine and previously helped develop an upper GI malignancies program and clinical-trials portfolio at Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida.
