NYP Brooklyn Methodist NY Nurses Ratify New Contract

Nearly 1,600 NYSNA nurses at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital have approved a new three-year labor agreement following months of negotiations over working conditions and patient care. The deal strengthens staffing requirements, expands measures aimed at protecting hospital workers from violence, establishes protections concerning the use of artificial intelligence in clinical decision-making, and provides annual pay increases. The agreement also changes parts of the arbitration process, giving nurses additional mechanisms to address staffing disputes and other workplace concerns.

Amtrak Breaks Ground on $1B NYC Rail Facility

Amtrak has begun a major modernization of Sunnyside Yard in Long Island City, marking a significant investment in New York City’s passenger rail infrastructure. The more than $1 billion initiative will create new maintenance, inspection, cleaning and service capacity designed to support the next generation of Amtrak trains while improving the efficiency of one of the region’s most important rail facilities. As portions of the project come online through 2030, the upgraded Queens yard is expected to play a central role in maintaining trains serving New York and destinations throughout the Northeast, while helping reduce the amount of time equipment is taken out of service.

NYU Leads $19.67M Study on Ketamine for Trauma Pain

NYU Grossman School of Medicine is leading a major multicenter clinical trial exploring whether low-dose ketamine can provide better pain relief for patients recovering from surgery following serious orthopedic injuries. Supported by nearly $20 million in federal funding, the seven-year K-POST study will involve 1,800 patients and assess pain, recovery, mental health and medication use over time.
