NY AG Secures Terms in Paramount-Warner Bros. Deal

New York Attorney General Letitia James and attorneys general from 11 other states have reached an antitrust settlement with Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery that establishes conditions for their major media combination. Under the agreement, Paramount must maintain minimum annual film-release levels and increase domestic film-production spending by $1.5 billion over five years. The companies must also negotiate fees for their respective cable channels separately, while an independent editorial board will oversee CNN and CBS. The settlement includes financial penalties if Paramount misses certain film-production requirements and provisions involving unionized entertainment workers. The agreement resolves lawsuits brought by the states and the Writers Guild of America and clears a major legal obstacle to Paramount's acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.

NYC Announces Free 2026 Media and Entertainment Talks

New Yorkers interested in building careers across media and entertainment will have access to five free industry events this fall covering some of the sector’s fastest-changing fields. The 2026 Made in NY Talks will bring professionals and aspiring workers together at venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn for discussions focused on artificial intelligence in media, fashion and beauty, journalism and independent publishing, advertising technology, and opportunities in film and television production. Organized by the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment with the Center for Communication, the October and November sessions are designed to give attendees practical exposure to career paths, industry trends and professionals working in these fields. All five events will be held in person, are open to the public and require advance registration.

Met Cancels Planned John Galliano Fashion Exhibition

New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani announced a new initiative securing 1,000 affordable FIFA World Cup 2026™ tickets for New York City residents at just $50 each, including free round-trip transportation to MetLife Stadium. The program, created in partnership with the FIFA World Cup 2026™ NYNJ Host Committee, is designed to ensure working-class New Yorkers have access to one of the world’s biggest sporting events as the tournament comes to the region. The ticket lottery will cover five group stage matches and two knockout round matches, with winners selected through a citywide lottery open to residents ages 15 and older.
