Free East New York Concert Brings 4 Days of Music

East New York will host four days of free live music, health programming and community resources beginning September 17, as New York State Assemblywoman Nikki Lucas and legendary DJ Watkins bring the annual East New York Concert and Wellness Series back to Brooklyn. The celebration on Van Siclen Avenue will feature Caribbean and Latin music, House, Hip-Hop, R&B, Gospel and Jazz, with scheduled performers including Doug E. Fresh, Nice & Smooth, Angela Winbush, Howard Hewett, Crystal Waters, Byron Stingily and other artists and DJs. Saturday’s program will also include health screenings, while community organizations will connect residents with wellness, public-safety and neighborhood resources. Running through September 20, the free series combines entertainment with services for families from East New York, Starrett City, Brownsville, Canarsie and surrounding Brooklyn communities.

NYC Announces Free 2026 Media and Entertainment Talks

New Yorkers interested in building careers across media and entertainment will have access to five free industry events this fall covering some of the sector’s fastest-changing fields. The 2026 Made in NY Talks will bring professionals and aspiring workers together at venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn for discussions focused on artificial intelligence in media, fashion and beauty, journalism and independent publishing, advertising technology, and opportunities in film and television production. Organized by the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment with the Center for Communication, the October and November sessions are designed to give attendees practical exposure to career paths, industry trends and professionals working in these fields. All five events will be held in person, are open to the public and require advance registration.

Met Cancels Planned John Galliano Fashion Exhibition

The Metropolitan Museum of Art will no longer move forward with its planned 2027 Costume Institute exhibition centered on designer John Galliano. The decision was reached after discussions between Galliano and museum leadership amid concerns surrounding his past conduct and the impact an exhibition honoring his career could have on affected communities. Galliano expressed appreciation for The Met while acknowledging his past actions and saying that accountability requires an ongoing commitment rather than institutional recognition.
