Mike Bellamy joins JIG Media to help amplify college athletics programs across New York City, expanding recruiting reach, fan engagement, and sponsorship and NIL opportunities.

BROOKLYN, NY — April 8, 2026 — JIG Media today announced that Mike Bellamy has joined the company as Director of Collegiate Athletics Visibility & Partnerships, a strategic position focused on increasing visibility for college athletics programs across New York City and connecting institutions with new audiences, recruits, and revenue opportunities.

In this newly announced role with JIG Media, Bellamy will lead efforts to amplify college athletics programs throughout New York City, spanning Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island. New York is city of more than 8 million residents, many of whom are passionate sports fans but remain largely unaware of the talent, competition, and opportunities within local collegiate athletics.

Through JIG Media’s hyperlocal media ecosystem, including its distribution platform NYC Newswire, its network of local publications, and the NYC College Sports platform, Bellamy will work directly with colleges to expand their reach beyond campus and into communities across all five boroughs.

“New York City is one of the biggest sports markets in the world, yet college athletics here often do not get the visibility they deserve,” said Vernon K. Jones Sr., CEO of JIG Media. “Mike Bellamy brings the relationships, experience, and vision to help change that. He understands both the media landscape and the athletic ecosystem in New York City, and he will help colleges amplify their programs in a way that can drive real results — from recruiting to sponsorship growth to fan development.”

Bellamy will work closely with athletic departments to develop and execute visibility strategies that include media coverage, storytelling, digital distribution, and targeted outreach to high school athletes, parents, alumni, and sports fans throughout New York City. These efforts are designed to help participating colleges increase recruiting exposure, build stronger fan bases, enhance value for existing sponsors, attract new sponsorship partners, and create expanded opportunities for Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals for student-athletes.

“I’m excited to join JIG Media in this capacity because I believe college athletics in New York City deserves a much bigger spotlight,” said Mike Bellamy. “There is tremendous talent across the city’s colleges, but too often those programs are not being seen by the people who should know about them. This effort is about helping colleges expand their reach, grow their audience, and create more opportunities for their student-athletes and athletic departments.”

Bellamy brings extensive experience in sports media and community engagement. He is a former sports producer for Brooklyn Television (BRIC), where he developed and produced sports content highlighting local athletes and teams. He also previously led a college sports digital media platform, giving him deep experience in collegiate athletics and a strong understanding of the visibility challenges facing college programs throughout New York City.

In addition, Bellamy has built strong relationships with high school coaches, players, and parents across New York City — an important pipeline for college recruiting. His experience across both high school and college athletics positions him to help create meaningful connections between college programs and the communities they serve.

As part of this role, Bellamy will oversee the NYC College Sports digital platform, which will serve as a central media hub for coverage, storytelling, and promotion of collegiate athletics programs throughout New York City. The platform will work in tandem with JIG Media’s broader distribution network to ensure consistent, citywide amplification.

Impact on NYC College Athletics

College athletics programs in New York City compete in one of the largest and most influential media markets in the world, yet many remain underrepresented in mainstream sports coverage. Increasing visibility across NYC can directly impact recruiting pipelines, fan engagement, sponsorship value, and overall program growth, while also creating new opportunities for student-athletes through NIL partnerships.

Colleges that partner with JIG Media gain access to a powerful media and distribution ecosystem designed to amplify their athletics programs across New York City, helping them reach high school athletes, families, sports fans, and potential sponsors at scale.
