Michelle DeSouza says one of the biggest goals of her campaign is helping residents better understand the role Civil Court judges play in issues that directly affect families and communities across Brooklyn. With a legal background that includes litigation, immigration, real estate, contracts, and estate matters, DeSouza says she believes courtroom fairness, professionalism, and respect are essential qualities for anyone serving on the bench. Her campaign has also highlighted her longtime involvement in Brooklyn community and educational advocacy efforts.

Michelle DeSouza Continues Community Outreach Across Brooklyn During Civil Court Campaign

BROOKLYN, NY — Judicial candidate Michelle DeSouza is continuing to meet with residents throughout Brooklyn’s 6th Municipal District as her campaign for Kings County Civil Court Judge continues to build momentum across the district. Through community events, neighborhood meetings, and conversations with local residents, DeSouza said she wants voters to better understand the importance of local judicial elections and the role Civil Court judges play in the lives of everyday New Yorkers.

DeSouza said her campaign outreach has focused on connecting directly with residents in the 6th Municipal District, including Crown Heights, East Flatbush, Flatbush, Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Midwood, Kensington, and Prospect Lefferts Gardens.

“Many people do not think about the court system until it directly impacts their lives or their families,” said Michelle DeSouza. “I want voters to know the values I would bring to the bench and my commitment to fairness, professionalism, and respect for every person who enters a courtroom.”

As far as experience and her connection to the community, DeSouza has handled litigation matters on behalf of the City of New York while working in Brooklyn and has represented individuals and families in matters involving wills and estates, immigration, contracts, real estate, and civil disputes throughout her legal career. A longtime Brooklyn resident raised in East Flatbush, she said her background and years of legal and community service continue to shape her approach to leadership and public service.

“I believe people deserve fairness, professionalism, and dignity when they enter a courtroom,” DeSouza said. “The justice system affects people in very real ways, and it is important that individuals feel heard and respected throughout the process.”

Outside of her legal work, DeSouza has remained active in community and educational advocacy. She was one of the founding members of the Caribbean American Lawyers Association (CALA) and previously served on Community Education Council 18. She has also remained active in community service efforts through God’s Battalion of Prayer Church and previously received the Caribbean Life Impact Award in recognition of her service to the community.

As the campaign continues, DeSouza said she plans to continue meeting directly with residents and community stakeholders throughout neighborhoods within the district.

“I look forward to continuing to meet directly with residents, community leaders, and neighborhood stakeholders throughout the district,” DeSouza said. “Listening to people’s concerns and hearing their experiences is one of the most important parts of this campaign and of public service itself.”
