BROOKLYN, NY — With Early Voting set to begin this weekend, Civil Court Judge candidate Michelle DeSouza is entering the final stretch of the campaign with the backing of several prominent Brooklyn community leaders who say her legal experience, commitment to public service, and reputation for integrity make her well qualified to serve on the bench.

DeSouza, who has been "Approved" by the New York City Bar, has earned the endorsement of Assembly Member Rodneyse Bichotte-Hermelyn (42nd Assembly District), Assembly Member Brian Cunningham (43rd Assembly District), District Leader Anthony Beckford (43rd Assembly District), District Leader Michelle Tege (43rd Assembly District), District Leader Michael Boomer (57th Assembly District), District Leader Shaquana Boykin (57th Assembly District), and District Leader Josue Pierre (42nd Assembly District). She has also been endorsed by the New York Progressive Action Network.

"I am honored to receive the support of respected elected officials, district leaders, and community advocates who have dedicated themselves to serving Brooklyn," said Michelle DeSouza. "These endorsements reflect a shared belief that our courts must be fair, impartial, and accessible to everyone who enters them. I am grateful for their confidence in my experience, integrity, and commitment to public service."

A longtime attorney, community advocate, and public servant, DeSouza has spent her legal career representing everyday New Yorkers and working to ensure that individuals and families are treated fairly under the law. As an immigrant from Guyana who was raised in Brooklyn, she understands the challenges many residents face when navigating the legal system and believes that every person deserves to be heard with dignity and respect.

The endorsements come as voters prepare to cast their ballots in the Democratic Primary for Civil Court Judge.

Early Voting begins Saturday, June 13, and continues through Sunday, June 21. Election Day is Tuesday, June 23, 2026. Voters throughout Brooklyn's 6th Municipal District are encouraged to make their voices heard and participate in this important election.

"Local Civil Court Judges make decisions that affect families, tenants, consumers, workers, and small businesses every day," DeSouza added. "I am running because I believe every person who comes before the court deserves fairness, professionalism, and a judge who understands the real-life impact of every decision."
