(Press Release) Anthony W. Vaughn, Jr. Announces Candidacy for Civil Court Judge in Brooklyn’s 4th Municipal District
BROOKLYN, NY — Anthony W. Vaughn, Jr., a Brooklyn-based attorney with more than 26 years of legal experience and a long record of leadership and service within Brooklyn’s legal community, has announced his candidacy for Civil Court Judge in Brooklyn’s 4th Municipal District, which includes Brownsville, East New York, Canarsie, East Flatbush, Crown Heights, and Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Vaughn is the Immediate Past President of the Brooklyn Bar Association, where he made history as the first Black man to serve in that role. Over more than two decades, he has built a respected legal career grounded in integrity, preparation, and service, while remaining deeply connected to the communities he now seeks to serve from the bench.
“For me, this is about service, responsibility, and trust,” Vaughn said. “The Civil Court touches people’s everyday lives — criminal issues, small business disputes, and family matters. I believe the community deserves a judge who understands not just the law, but the lived experiences of the people who come before the court.”
Vaughn is the owner of the Law Office of Anthony W. Vaughn, Jr. LLC, where he focuses on general litigation, including complex commercial matters involving real estate, construction, professional liability, financial services, and guardianship. He is widely known for providing clear risk assessments and practical guidance that help individuals and organizations navigate difficult decisions with confidence.
Throughout his career, Vaughn has paired legal excellence with community engagement. His service includes organizing coat drives for New Yorkers in need, supporting reentry programs for formerly incarcerated men, mentoring community members, and leading financial literacy initiatives focused on long-term economic stability and opportunity.
“My approach to the law has always been rooted in fairness, preparation, and respect,” Vaughn said. “If elected, I will bring those same values to the bench. People should feel confident that when they enter the courtroom, they will be heard, understood, and treated with dignity.”
Raised in a family shaped by military service, faith, and civic responsibility, Vaughn credits those early influences with instilling discipline, compassion, and a strong moral compass. He is a graduate of Morehouse College and the University of Cincinnati College of Law, and is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, multiple federal courts, and the United States Supreme Court.
Vaughn and his wife, Dr. Matilda Miranda, are the parents of two college-aged children. Together, they have built their lives around family, faith, and service — values that continue to guide Vaughn’s professional and public life.
“As a judge, you are entrusted with applying the law to people’s lives,” Vaughn said. “That responsibility requires humility, patience, and a deep respect for the community. I am running because I believe my experience, my values, and my commitment to service can make a meaningful difference for the people of this district.”
