Assemblywoman Nikki Lucas, Chair of the Kings County Democratic Party, is calling for greater cooperation among Democrats in Brooklyn and across New York State ahead of the November election. Lucas criticized President Donald Trump's remarks about New York officials, including Attorney General Letitia James, and expressed concern about the impact of Republican economic policies on working families. She urged Democratic leaders to focus on rising housing, grocery and utility costs while pursuing legislation intended to provide financial relief. Lucas also emphasized cooperation among elected officials, district leaders and community organizations. Her statement calls for greater civic participation and access to accurate election information so residents can make informed decisions.

Kings County Democratic Chair Assemblywoman Nikki Lucas Calls for Democratic Unity Amid Trump's Attacks on New Yorkers

Kings County Democratic Leader Condemns President's Rhetoric and Policies, Calls for Unity, Affordability Legislation and Voter Engagement Across New York State

BROOKLYN, NY — Kings County Democratic Party Chair Assemblywoman Nikki Lucas is calling for unity among Democrats throughout Brooklyn and New York State as President Donald Trump continues to criticize New York and promote Republican candidates and policies that Chair Lucas says are hurting working families. With the November election approaching, she emphasized the need for Democratic leaders to put aside internal differences, remain focused on the affordability crisis, and strengthen civic participation across the state.

Trump's recent appearance in New York brought renewed attention to his administration's political agenda and its relationship with Republican candidates seeking statewide office. Chair Lucas expressed concern that the administration's economic priorities are placing additional pressure on New York households already struggling with the rising costs of housing, groceries, utilities, and other necessities.

During his recent remarks, Trump also referred to New York Attorney General Letitia James as a "dog," drawing attention to his continued use of personal attacks against New York officials and women. Chair Lucas condemned the language as disrespectful and beneath the dignity of the presidency, arguing that New Yorkers deserve serious leadership rather than political insults.

"President Trump continues to attack New York, its leaders, and the people who call this state home, while promoting policies that I believe are making life more difficult for working families. His treatment of Attorney General Letitia James is disgraceful, but it is also part of a larger pattern of rhetoric that distracts from the real economic challenges facing our communities. As the Kings County Democratic Party Chair, I will not stand idly by while our members are being attacked. An attack on one member is an attack on all Brooklyn residents.”

"Democrats across Brooklyn and New York State cannot afford to become divided or consumed by the President's latest remarks. We have too much at stake, and our responsibility is to remain united around the issues that matter most to the people we represent."

Affordability Must Remain the Priority

Chair Lucas emphasized that the rising cost of living remains one of the most urgent challenges facing residents throughout Brooklyn and New York State. Chair Lucas called for continued legislative efforts to reduce household expenses, expand affordable housing, and create greater economic opportunities for working families.

"Families are working hard every day, yet too many are struggling to keep up with the cost of living while their wages fail to keep pace. We must continue introducing and advancing real legislation that addresses these challenges and provides meaningful economic relief to New Yorkers," says Chair Lucas.

"We cannot allow Trump's rhetoric to distract us from the work that needs to be done in Albany and in our communities. Our response must include practical solutions, responsible leadership, and a commitment to improving the everyday lives of the people we serve."

Democratic Unity and Civic Participation

As Kings County Democratic Party Leader, Lucas stressed the importance of cooperation among elected officials, district leaders, grassroots organizations, and community members throughout Brooklyn. She said political differences should not prevent Democrats from working together on shared legislative priorities or strengthening public engagement ahead of the November election.

"Brooklyn is made up of diverse communities with different perspectives, but our shared responsibility to the people we represent must always come first. We must respect our differences, find common ground, and work together to address the economic challenges affecting families across our borough."

With the November election approaching, we must also make civic participation a priority throughout Brooklyn and New York State. Residents deserve accurate information about the issues, the candidates, and the voting process so they can make informed decisions about the future of their communities.

"These are serious times, and New Yorkers have too much to lose if we allow political division to overshadow the needs of working families. We must remain focused on unity, affordability, meaningful legislation, and leadership that delivers real results for the people of our state."

“As Democrats, we must remain united, work together, and stand firm in our commitment to the people we represent. Our shared responsibility is to challenge policies that harm working families while advancing meaningful solutions that protect the interests and improve the lives of New Yorkers.”
