Jaime Williams Highlights Free Swim Lessons to Help Keep Canarsie Youth Safe This Summer
BROOKLYN, NY — As families prepare for another summer of visits to pools, beaches, and waterfront destinations, Assemblymember Jaime Williams is encouraging Canarsie parents to take advantage of a free swim instruction program that helps children develop essential water safety skills while promoting healthy exercise and physical activity.
The free Learn-to-Swim program, administered by the Hebrew Educational Society (H.E.S.) in Canarsie, is available to youth ages 5-12 and is designed to teach swimming fundamentals, build confidence in the water, and help children stay safe during the summer months.
"Summer should be a time for children and families to enjoy themselves, but it is also important that young people understand how to be safe around water," said Assemblymember Jaime Williams. "Whether they are visiting a neighborhood pool, attending camp, or spending time at the beach, knowing how to swim can make a tremendous difference. I encourage families throughout our community to take advantage of this opportunity."
Williams noted that swimming is not only an important safety skill but also a healthy form of exercise that can benefit children throughout their lives.
"Every child deserves access to opportunities that help them grow, stay active, and remain safe," Williams added. "Programs like this provide valuable skills, build confidence, and create positive experiences for our young people during the summer."
