Jaime Williams Says Political Deception Won't Distract Her From Delivering Results for the 59th Assembly District
In a desperate attempt to sway an election just days before voter’s head to the polls, the Socialist-backed candidate Jibreel Jalloh and his supporters have chosen to spread false allegations involving my family rather than discussing the issues that matter to the people of this community.
Deed Theft Is a Serious Crime
His latest attack is a desperate attempt to portray a simple family dispute as a deed theft issue. Let me be clear: deed theft is a felony in New York. It has devastated families, stolen generational wealth, and harmed homeowners throughout New York City. It is not a political talking “hammer”, and it should never be weaponized for campaign purposes.
I strongly urge Jibreel Jalloh to take his claims to the District Attorney if he genuinely believes them. The problem is that he knows these allegations are false. Instead, he has chosen to use misinformation and personal attacks in a desperate attempt to influence an election. Smearing my reputation and that of my family will not distract from my record of service, and I will vigorously defend myself against any defamatory statements.
As a member of the New York State Assembly, I recently voted to approve a state budget that includes more than $40 million to combat deed theft, strengthen homeowner protections, and help prevent New Yorkers from becoming victims. I understand how serious deed theft is because I have worked to help fight it. That is why I find it especially troubling to see such a serious allegation being used as part of a political effort to distract voters from my record and the issues affecting this district.
A Pattern of Political Attacks
Unfortunately, these false allegations are part of a broader pattern of political attacks designed to distract voters from the real issues facing our community. I remain focused on serving residents and will continue to defend my reputation and my family's reputation against misinformation.
The allegations being circulated involve a longstanding dispute between a daughter and her father, who happens to be my husband. In response to the false claims being spread, my husband publicly addressed the matter in a video, and my mother-in-law appeared alongside him. Despite that, political operatives have continued to push a false narrative in an effort to influence this election.
Unfortunately, this is becoming a pattern. We recently saw similar tactics used in the Assembly race in Bedford-Stuyvesant, where accusations and misinformation became part of the political strategy.
Time and time again, Socialist-backed campaigns and their allies resort to political theater rather than engaging voters on the issues that matter most. Recently, State Senator Jabari Brisport was forced to apologize after making false claims about his opponent, Marlon Rice. Yet the same playbook continues to be used over and over again.
If my opponent truly believes these allegations have merit, he should bring them to the appropriate authorities. Otherwise, he should retract them and apologize.
Enough is enough.
Focused on Results for the Community
We deserve better than lies, distortions, and last-minute smear campaigns. We deserve leaders who spend their time solving problems, delivering resources, and improving neighborhoods—not manufacturing controversy for political gain.
While my opponents focus on distractions, I remain focused on delivering results for the people of this district. I will not allow false allegations involving my family to distract me from the work the community elected me to do.
Together with community leaders, local organizations, and residents, we have secured tens of millions of dollars in funding for schools, parks, homeowners, seniors, youth programs, public safety initiatives, small businesses, and community organizations throughout Canarsie, Flatlands, Marine Park, Mill Basin, Bergen Beach, Georgetown, and Gerritsen Beach.
This election is about the future of our district. It is about who has the experience, relationships, and proven record to continue delivering resources and fighting for our neighborhoods.
On June 23, I am asking my supporters, neighbors, friends, and community members to come out and vote. Your vote will help ensure that we continue bringing resources, services, and opportunities back to our district. Together, we can keep our focus on progress, results, and community, and keep our district free from lies, deceit, and political gamesmanship.
I am proud of my record, proud of the work we have accomplished together, and proud to serve the people of the 59th Assembly District. I trust the voters will see through these distractions and make their decision based on truth, results, and what is best for our community.
