As early voting begins across New York City, Brooklyn Democratic Party Leader, Assemblywoman Nikki Lucas, is encouraging residents to make a voting plan and remind family members, friends and neighbors to participate. Lucas, who also serves as Kings County Democratic Party Leader, is connecting the November 3 election to concerns about rising household expenses, including housing, groceries and utilities. She highlighted her work to preserve affordable housing at Linden Plaza and her proposed legislation offering a 10% discount for purchases made through self-checkout kiosks. Early voting runs from October 24 through November 1, with Election Day scheduled for November 3. Voters are encouraged to confirm their assigned polling locations before heading to the polls.

Brooklyn Democratic Leader, Assemblywoman Nikki Lucas Urges NYC to Vote Early

Early voting runs through Sunday, November 1; Assemblywoman Lucas calls on residents to remind friends and family to vote.

BROOKLYN, NY — Assemblywoman Nikki Lucas, who represents the 60th Assembly District, including communities in East New York, Brownsville, Starrett City and Canarsie, and also serves as Kings County Democratic Party Leader, is urging residents to vote early. Early voting begins today, Saturday, October 24, through Sunday, November 1, 2026, and Election Day is Tuesday November 3.

“Voting is more important now than ever. Affordability is under attack every day, from the cost of housing, food and gas to electricity, home heating, transportation and childcare,” said Assemblywoman Lucas. “These expenses affect the decisions families make around the kitchen table. Your vote helps determine who will fight for you and whether the issues affecting your household get the attention they deserve.”

Assemblywoman Lucas emphasized that her work on affordability includes protecting affordable housing while pushing for the improvements residents deserve. She pointed to her work at Linden Plaza, where preserving affordability has gone hand in hand with major apartment renovations and exterior improvements, including lighting, security and beautification upgrades.

“Keeping housing affordable must also mean making sure people have safe, comfortable and well-maintained homes,” Assemblywoman Lucas said. “Our work at Linden Plaza reflects that commitment. Residents deserve improvements inside their apartments and throughout their development while keeping their homes affordable.”

Assemblywoman Lucas also highlighted Assembly Bill A11501, which she created and introduced to require supermarkets, grocery stores and other retailers to provide a 10% discount on purchases made through self-service checkout kiosks. The proposed legislation would put money back in shoppers’ pockets at the cash register if enacted.

“I introduced A11501 because families need meaningful savings on everyday necessities,” Assemblywoman Lucas said. “If you are scanning and bagging your own groceries, you should receive a benefit for doing that work. I need your support to help get other Assembly members and state senators on board so we can move this bill forward and deliver those savings.”

Assemblywoman Lucas encouraged residents throughout the 60th Assembly District to make a voting plan and personally reach out to others rather than assume they already know when and where to vote.

“From East New York and Brownsville to Starrett City and Canarsie, I’m asking everyone to help spread the word,” Assemblywoman Lucas said. “Call your family. Text your friends. Remind your neighbors. Share the voting schedule and help someone find their assigned polling location. I am fighting every day for affordability, and your participation matters. Let’s show up and make our voices heard.”
