City Tech Hospitality Management students in Brooklyn, where a renewed Giambelli Foundation grant will provide $200,000 in scholarships.
New York City College of Technology, a CUNY college located in Downtown Brooklyn, will receive another $200,000 for scholarships supporting students pursuing careers in New York City's hospitality industry. The Francesco and Mary Giambelli Foundation renewed its four-year commitment to the City Tech Foundation, providing $50,000 annually for Hospitality Management students. The new grant will bring the foundation's total support for the program to $400,000 after an initial commitment funded scholarships for 50 students between 2022 and 2026. Awards range from $500 to the cost of a full semester's tuition and are available to eligible full- and part-time students based on financial need, academic achievement or a combination of both.

Grant Awards $50,000 Per Year for Student Scholarships, Bringing the Foundation’s Total Contribution to City Tech to $400,000
The City University of New York today announced that the Francesco and Mary Giambelli Foundation has renewed its four-year grant to the City Tech Foundation at the New York City College of Technology, which provides $50,000 per year in scholarships to Hospitality Management majors. The Giambellis were renowned NYC restauranteurs whose foundation began the scholarships for City Tech students in 2022. This renewal will bring the Foundation’s total contribution to City Tech’s Hospitality Management program to $400,000.
“We are grateful to the Francesco and Mary Giambelli Foundation for its ongoing commitment to our students at City Tech,” said CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez. “Their generous support will continue to help aspiring hospitality professionals pursue their education and build successful careers while carrying forward the Giambellis’ remarkable legacy in an industry that has helped shape New York City’s cultural and economic life.”
“Francesco and Mary Giambelli were icons in the hospitality industry and we are proud to carry on their legacy through scholarships in their name that support students at the New York City College of Technology,” said CUNY Trustee and President of the Francesco and Mary Giambelli Foundation Angelo Vivolo. “Seeing these students succeed and pursue careers in the hospitality industry is a meaningful reflection of the values the Giambellis held throughout their lives.”
“Through the generous support of the Francesco and Mary Giambelli Foundation, City Tech Hospitality students have been able to pursue their educational goals with fewer financial barriers,” said New York City College of Technology Interim President Milton Santiago. “Under the leadership of Angelo Vivolo, the Giambelli Foundation’s investment has helped invigorate and strengthen the Hospitality Management program while preparing the next generation of hospitality professionals.”
Francesco and Mary Giambelli previously owned several Italian restaurants in Manhattan, including Giambelli’s 50th in Midtown, and regularly donated food and funds to the Catholic church to feed the homeless. They established their namesake foundation to support organizations and initiatives that expand access to education, advance health care and medical research and address food insecurity.
The renewed grant totals $200,000 over four years, matching the Foundation’s initial $200,000 commitment in 2022, which supported scholarships for 50 students enrolled in City Tech’s Hospitality Management department between 2022 and 2026.
“The Giambelli Foundation’s support has allowed me to focus fully on my studies and continue growing into the hospitality professional I am becoming,” said Britney Andrew, a Francesco and Mary Giambelli Foundation scholarship recipient and senior at City Tech. “Receiving this scholarship has helped me continue my studies at City Tech without the heavy stress of financial challenges. It has allowed me to stay focused on my classes, stay motivated and keep working toward my goals.”
The scholarship provides financial support ranging from $500 to the full cost of one semester’s tuition for full- and part-time students enrolled in City Tech’s Hospitality Management department. The awards recognize students who exemplify professionalism and the spirit of hospitality, while supporting those who demonstrate financial need, exceptional academic achievement, or both.
