NYU Langone Health has earned the top position in Vizient's national health system rankings for the fifth consecutive year, becoming the first system to hold the organization's No. 1 ranking for five straight years. Its Manhattan campus also ranked first among 122 comprehensive academic medical centers, while NYU Langone's network of more than 400 outpatient practices placed first among 70 participating physician networks. Other facilities across the New York region also appeared in the rankings, with NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island placing No. 3 and NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn reaching No. 6 in their cohort. Vizient evaluates healthcare organizations using measures including safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency and patient experience.
NYU Langone Health Is Named No. 1 Health System for 5th Consecutive Year by Vizient
YU Langone Health has been named the No. 1 health system in the United States by Vizient Inc. for the fifth consecutive year, making it the first health system to earn a top ranking in this category five years in a row. The rankings by Vizient, the nation’s largest provider-driven healthcare performance improvement company, are among the most closely watched in healthcare and are based on mortality and infection rates, patient experience scores, and other quality and safety measures.
NYU Langone’s Manhattan campus once again topped Vizient’s Comprehensive Academic Medical Center cohort, which includes 122 institutions nationwide. The system’s more than 400 ambulatory practices were also named the No. 1 physician practice network in the nation out of 70 participating networks.
Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island ranked No. 3 and NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn ranked No. 6 in Vizient’s Large, Specialized Complex Care Medical Center cohort of 225 institutions. NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk, which advanced to Vizient’s separate Complex Care Medical Center cohort last year, ranked No. 55 in that expanded field of 238 institutions.

Vizient’s nationwide survey, conducted annually since 2005, evaluated seven cohorts based on hospital size, services, and operational characteristics. It measured performance in six domains of patient care quality: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness, and variation in care.
NYU Langone is consistently recognized for its quality and safety metrics by respected rating agencies. U.S. News & World Report recently ranked NYU Langone No. 1 in more clinical specialties than any other medical center in the country. NYU Langone hospitals have also earned 10 consecutive A ratings in safety from the Leapfrog Group and received multiple Magnet designations for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, considered the gold standard in nursing.
