Assemblywoman Nikki Lucas Hosts Annual Tradition in the 60th District

Hundreds of families in East New York came out this past weekend for Assemblywoman Nikki Lucas’ 12th Annual Back-to-School Giveaway, held in the heart of the 60th Assembly District. The event brought together community leaders, elected officials, local businesses, and volunteers to ensure students are ready and excited for the new school year.

Over 600 backpacks filled with supplies were distributed directly to students at the event, while another 400 bookbagswere given to community-based organizations to support additional back-to-school drives across Brooklyn.

Leaders Show Support

The giveaway received strong backing from local and national leaders. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez stopped by to show his support, and Congressman Hakeem Jeffries also lent his encouragement to the effort, underscoring the importance of community partnerships in uplifting families during challenging times.

More Than School Supplies

In addition to backpacks and school essentials, the day featured services designed to boost confidence as students return to the classroom. Local barbers and hairdressers volunteered their time to provide free haircuts, making sure kids walked away not only prepared but also feeling their best for the first day of school.

Parents also expressed gratitude, noting that events like these come at a critical time when the cost of groceries, rent, clothing, and other necessities continue to rise.
